Frogmore House in Windsor

Tucked away from the general public, round the side of Windsor Castle, sits Frogmore House.

Only open to public visitors a few weekends each year, Frogmore is both a quirky private mansion for the royal family and the location of the mausoleum where Queen Victoria is buried. Queen Victoria was particularly fond of Frogmore which is on a much more human scale than the neighbouring castle.

The house at Frogmore is a lovely white painted building which dates from the 1680s although it has seen much rennovation over the years. It contains a room fitted out using the items removed from the decomissioned Royal Yacht Britannia. It really is quite spectacular and worth a visit in itself. In addition the private gardens around the house and mausoleum are delightful.
