Hotels in Windsor
Windsor is the home of some of the nicest luxury hotels in Berkshire.
If you are thinking of staying in Windsor and Eton (just across the river thames) or are looking for good hotels in Ascot then these should suit you well.
Sir Christopher Wren's House Hotel

A real gem, for many people this is the best hotel in the centre of Windsor.
The Sir Christopher Wren is right next to Eton bridge in the heart of
Windsor and dates back to the 1600s. It was designed and built as the
family home of Sir Christopher Wren, the famous architect of St. Paul's
Cathedral in London. The Sir Christopher Wren's House Hotel is now a top
class Windsor accommodation destination. The standard of rooms and service
is very high and in our experience the staff are lovely. The excellent
Strok's restaurant is attached to the hotel and features a lovely riverside
terrace. If you are looking for a really good hotel in Windsor right next
to the river Thames then the Sir Christopher Wren's House may well be
the choice for you.
Ye Harte & Garter Hotel

The Harte and Garter is on the High Street in the centre of town. In fact
you cannot get closer to the Castle without actually going inside. The
location makes this hotel very sought after, as do the luxury rooms with
great views from the top floors into the castle itself. This Windsor hotel
sits on a site with a long history of providing hospitality. Next time
you read Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor, you will notice
a reference to the 'Garter Inn'. The Harte & Garter stands on the
very same spot where the old inn which Shakespeare mentioned once stood.
Recently modernised inside it now stands as one of Windsor's hippest luxury
places to stay.

The Mercure Castle Hotel sits on the High Street, close to the entrance
to Windsor Castle and is for many people the first choice when it comes
to Windsor accommodation. One of the real luxury hotels in Windsor, The
Castle Hotel boasts more than 100 en-suite bedrooms; all equipped with
satellite tv, internet connections hairdryers and tea & coffee making
facilities. The prices to stay in the Castle can be surprisingly reasonable.
If you would like to book a Windsor hotel that is stylish and central,
the Castle Hotel comes highly recommended.

Cliveden is an absolutely stunning former country home of the Astor dynasty.
The infamous Profumo affair was played out here in the 1960s and staying
here recreates the luxurious opulence of days gone by. Celebrity guests
often stay at this excellent hotel which has a world class restaurant.
Cliveden is positioned in 375 acres of beautifully managed National Trust
land on a ridge high above the Thames, affording spectacular views from
the terrace. Cliveden House is 9 miles from Windsor town centre. A great
house and a great place to stay.

The Christopher on Eton High Street, just a 2 minute walk from Windsor
Castle is another very charming old building, with with an excellent restaurant
and reputation for first class service. We particularly like the atmosphere
of their oak-paneled bar. It has become a favourite meeting place when
friends are in town.

The Manor is in the neighbouring village of Datchet, just a mile downstream
from Windsor and easily accessible. Located right on the village green
and moments from the side of the River Thames this luxury hideaway now
features new rooms designed with Phillippe Starck bathrooms, Farrow and
Ball wallpapers and Porta Romana materials, creating a very chic look
and feel.

The Royal Berkshire Hotel is a lovely 18th-century red brick Queen Anne
mansion set in 15 acres of landscaped grounds. The Royal Berkshire is
a lovely hotel for the more discerning visitor. This hotel is in Ascot,
about five miles from Windsor. The drive between the two takes you through
the beautiful landscape of Windsor Great Park.
The
Royal Adelaide Hotel

Named after one of England's favourite Queens, this hotel is on King's
Street, very close to the Great Park and only a few minutes walk from
the town centre, sits in a quiet and charming corner of Windsor's famous
'golden triangle' where all the nicest houses are to be found. The hotel
is noted for its fine Georgian frontage. The Royal Adelaide Hotel is one
of my personal favorites. Inside the furnishing is refined and genteel.
Unlike some other hotels in older buildings, you will find the Royal Adelaide
has decent sized rooms. This is where I personally arrange for my own
visitors to stay when they come to Windsor.

A truly spectacular mock-gothic victorian mansion, built by the river
in the 1850s. Oakley Court was used in many 'Hammer House of Horror' films
in the 1960s. This hotel is about three miles upstream from Windsor town
centre. Oakley Court boasts a well equipped gym and a small but enjoyable
golf course. A real delight in summer is the riverside garden and the
fact that they hire out boats to residents. So next time you want to stay
in a Windsor Hotel, imagine coming here and then taking your own private
launch downstream past the racecourse and mooring up in the middle of
Windsor's entertainment district. Oakley Court Hotel also boast a pool,
spa, gym and excellent restaurant. A great choice if you want a bit of
privacy.

Burnham Beeches Hotel was built in 1727. There are 10 acres of beautiful
gardens and manicured lawns. The accommodation had more than £1.5
million pounds spent on refurbishments and now looks stunning. It is four
and a half miles from Windsor Town Centre and is also a great location
for exploring the delights of Burnham Beeches, the last remnants of a
vast beech forest that once covered almost the entire county and one of
the finest woodlands anywhere in the country. The new Executive Bedrooms
and Suites at the Burnham Beeches Hotel are all designed and furnished
by Laura Ashley.

Savill Court hotel is a Jacobean style mansion set in 22 acres of secluded
parkland close to Windsor Great Park and about 10 minutes drive in to
Windsor town. An excellent accommodation choice if you want to go walking
in the great park. Savill Court really is one of the prettiest Windsor
hotels. We strongly recommend it in Autumn when long walks in the royal
deer park are a total delight for the senses.
